By now, the video of the black girl being punched by a Seattle police officer has been commented on by innumerable bloggers, reporters, and writers. What most of them fail to note is that the police officer did not punch the girl for no reason - he did so after she shoved him when he was arresting her friend.
Liberals, libertarians, blacks, and feminists are uproarious, attacking the police officer for his "excessive use of force," "police brutality," "racism," etc.
They really should just admit that they are upset because a man hit a woman. If a man - even a black man - had shoved a police officer and received a punch to the face, there would be no news stories, no YouTube videos, and no blog posts ranting about the police.
Clearly, he shoulda tazed her.
ReplyDeleteIt's also worth mentioning that she has apologized to the cop
ReplyDeleteI saw the video. I thought the policeman was much too accomodating with both women. He was on the edge of being beaten to death by the bystanders. A situation that should have ended with the woman accepting her citation turned into a street brawl. Way too much grappling going on. If the policeman had backup there to control the corowd, it would have been one thing. But his attention was completely on subduing one person with minimum force. This approach left him open to having his equipment (gun) stolen and his personal endangerment.
ReplyDeleteThe woman was displaying typical "strong black woman" syndrome where she is acting out on a sense of overwhelming entitlement. She cannot back down because that would be showing weakness. What would Oprah think of her then?
If I were the policeman involved, I would suspect that the woman was guilty of other crimes and was fleeing police custoy for that reason. He definitely should have called for backup.
I think he needs a few more lessons on unarmed takedowns. He should have easily been able to restrain that woman. His fruitless grappling was just wearing him out making him less able to defend himself against the gathering crowd. Fortunately for him, the crowd was enjoying the show and didn't seem interested in helping the woman.
As an aside, It might be useful if police cars came with attachment points on the hood, trunk and sides, that people could be cuffed to.
ReplyDelete@OneSTDV:
ReplyDeleteAnother reason I'm not a libertarian: I respect the police and what they do. Too often libertarian positions are identical to those of liberals.
I've also noticed that despite the fact that liberals usually attack/mock libertarians for our views on government and economics, they are more than happy to use libertarian critiques of the police for their own agenda. Joshua Holland, an Alternet writer who routinely makes fun of "teabaggers," often links to Radley Balko's articles on police abuse, for example.
@Professor Hale:
"The woman was displaying typical "strong black woman" syndrome where she is acting out on a sense of overwhelming entitlement. She cannot back down because that would be showing weakness. What would Oprah think of her then?"
Ghetto culture has a very primal view of "strength" and "weakness." There is nothing strong about futilely and pointlessly fighting, nor is there anything weak about knowing when to disengage. But in ghetto culture, it is the opposite.
Question fellas:
ReplyDeleteHas there ever been a time when a White Woman was similarly punched in the face by the cops and it was caught on tape and shown on national television - and if not, why do you think that is? Are we to believe that all the White Women in America are just so wonderfully well behaved?
O.
"Has there ever been a time when a White Woman was similarly punched in the face by the cops and it was caught on tape and shown on national television - and if not, why do you think that is?"
ReplyDeleteI'm sure many have been punched by the police. It's just that there were dozens of witnesses, many of whom had recording devices, in this case.
"Are we to believe that all the White Women in America are just so wonderfully well behaved?"
No. Young American white women tend to be debaucherous sluts. Also, the ghetto culture of blacks has, since the early 2000s, been infecting whites, so many white American women act little different from their counterparts in the inner city.
Totally social ignorance by these comments.
ReplyDeleteI'm liberal and agree the cop had the right to use force. Unlike you idiots I come from a family of cops who are Black/Hispanic.
That female was highly out of control and over react. The situation was not hostile from bystanders who instead just watch and video tape.
The cop had a right to restrain that women and her friend. They are lucky he did not use his gun which is the last result or a night stick.
White women are just as vicious as any other women or man.
To depict irrational human behavior by race seems quite moronic.Regardless it is human nature to "fright or fight" once feel threaten.Place in a situation with no option and potential lost of freedom.Even the most well-educated of men will at like a jackass.
